Rambley Bits 1-29-11

This is supposed to go up on Friday, but I keep getting later and later with it.

  • I was right about football, again.  I’m now 8-2 for the playoffs.  My Super Bowl Pick will come next week though.
  • The Packers curb stomped the Bears for 3 quarter, then held off the come back.  This was pretty much as I expected, but I did expect more from Cutler.  That being said, the hullabaloo  over his injury is stupid.  Cutler did not pull himself out after he got hurt, he went back out there and realized that he was unable to perform.  I’d rather a player and coach realize a hurt star is a detriment to the team and pull him rather than limp to the end of the game with a player who can’t play because he is too proud to come off.
  • The Steelers beat the Jets, but not because of Roethlisberger.  Jets made a good showing in the 2nd half, but they dug themselves too big of a hole.  I picked the Steelers, but I’m almost sad the Jets are out of it.
  • Mizzou plays Texas today in basketball to determine if Mizzou is a factor in the Big XII championship.  If they beat Texas then they are one game back of Texas and KU with 2 games against KU left.  Go Mizzou.
  • I’ve been watching a lot of South Park on Netflix.  It’s amazing how funny that show has been over the entire 15ish years it’s been on.  It makes Family Guy look even worse in comparison.  Cartman is on of the greatest TV characters ever, as is Butters who was barely part of the show for the first 5 seasons.
  • The perfect South Park moment is in the episode “Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow” when Stan says they should help some people they trapped in a flood.  Kyle asks “How?” and Cartman asks “Why?”  That moment sums up the show pretty perfectly.
  • The Princess and the Frog is among the worst Disney animated films.  I hated it.  It seems like they started with a bullet point of “Black Disney Princess” and did not get much further.
  • For Your Consideration is not my favorite Christopher Guest movie.  I missed the mockumentary style. It was still pretty good.
  • Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is just a slightly too long episode of the show.  Since the show is really great, this is not a bad thing.
  • Been knocking down my DS Backlog this week. Zelda: Spirit Tracks has been beaten.  Review coming shortly
  • Also, I finished off Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.  Expect a review with Zelda.
  • Mega Man ZX Advent is the last DS game I beat his week.  No review for it, because I don’t have much to say.  It is a pretty good Mega Man game that either needed to lose or fully embrace the Metroidvania style.
  • I finished A Betrayal in Winter.  I liked it a lot.  It built really well off of the first book and actually felt important unlike the first.  A full write-up is in order.
  • Comic review times:  Green Lantern Corps 56 ignores the books supposed cast to fellate Sinestro for 20 pages.  It is a pretty good fight scene, but I am really losing interest in this title.
  • Power Girl 20 has some fun stuff, like PG fighting a ton of genetically engineered monsters and some stupid stuff, like a cloned Krypto that knows PG, making for a fun yet disappointing issue.
  • Justice League Generation Lost 18 is an issue just to bring Power Girl on to the team.  Every issue the Lopresti draws is much better than the others.
  • Brightest Day 18 seems to end the Hawkman and Hawkgirl portion of the story and it is a satisfactory ending until the denouement.
  • The Shazam! one-shot was a waste of money.  At least it doesn’t heap any more crap on Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel, but it doesn’t fix anything either.
  • Fun Project time: Tell me what to play.  Check my Backloggery, pick an unbeaten game and tell me to play it.  If I actually get responses, I will attempt to beat that game that go the most requests during the next month.
